Due to enhanced client demand, we are looking for an experienced stem cell technician or a cell culture technician to join our cell cultures team based in Saffron Walden at Chesterford Research Park. You will be working alongside a team of passionate and experienced scientists and technicians who are looking to develop lifesaving medicines for patients' worldwide.
 

What You'll Be Doing

 

 

For stem cells, in this laboratory-based role, you will join our established team of stem cell experts, supplying and quality controlling cells for assays and characterisation to aid our clients' drug discovery programs.

This is a hands-on technical role, where you'll be responsible for the delivery and maintenance of quality cell lines to be used in further experiments.

You must possess a strong attention to detail with ability to work meticulously and with minimal mistakes.

As a Senior Technician, you must also be able to recognise any potential issues that could affect successful culture of cell lines and be able to actively minimise and prevent contamination and infection.

 

For cell culture, you will produce high quality cell culture, cell banking, or GxP cell production, from within a dedicated team.   

You will be able to collaborate and troubleshoot with a range of cross-disciplinary teams, supplying cells for a wide array of cellular assay formats and helping to advance client projects covering a range of therapeutic areas including: oncology, inflammation, cardiovascular, metabolism and CNS diseases.

As well as providing support locally, the Technical Specialist role will involve cross-site collaboration, helping to establish and support Cell Culture teams at Charles River sites across the globe. 

  • Culturing and troubleshooting a significant number (30+) of recombinant, primary or stem cell lines in parallel
  • Providing cells for High Throughput Screening and contemporary cryopreservation methods consistently and to a high level of quality
  • Keeping up to date with current cell culture methods and applying process improvements as required

Skills and Experience

 

 

  • Significant practical experience in culturing and differentiation of hES and iPS cells, ideally with a background in neurosciences
  • Be able to demonstrate outstanding aseptic technique, an excellent attention to detail, and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Candidates with demonstrated expertise in isolation and culturing of primary cells, recombinant cell line generation or preparation of cell lines for high throughput screening may also be considered for this role.
  • Most importantly, you will have a passion for seeing the results of your work influencing ongoing drug discovery programs.
  • Candidates who would be willing to consider a non-traditional working pattern are welcomed.
  • Candidates must show proof of HepB vaccination as a prerequisite to work with human samples.
  • Significant experience with cell culture technology development and implementation.
  • Ability to manage and balance the needs of several simultaneous high-throughput projects.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology and cell line generation experience in order to provide best practice to client cell line generation projects a distinct advantage.
  • Awareness of modern biological safety requirements of tissue culture facilities and methods of avoiding contamination.

 

Qualifications

 

  • BSc in relevant discipline.
  • Experience may be substituted for education.
