Charles River Discovery are excited to be recruiting for an Associate Research Leader in Medicinal Chemistry, to provide scientific leadership within the chemistry team at our drug discovery facilities in Cambridge, UK.

 

You will be an experienced medicinal chemist, who is able to provide scientific leadership to enable the delivery of high quality medicinal and synthetic chemistry, from target validation through to clinical candidate nomination in partnership with our clients.

 

The Associate Research Leader will be instrumental in contributing to high-performing, collaborative, inter-disciplinary teams and will be an experienced drug discovery scientist with a keen interest in cutting edge science and a proven track record of advancing compounds towards the clinic. 

 

 

What You'll be Doing

 

  • Provide independent medicinal chemistry leadership on one or more project teams, by supporting the design and co-ordination of work plans and using creative problem solving to achieve project goals.

  • Offer drug discovery expertise, both internally and to clients, challenging thinking and using own initiative to help to influence, define and deliver scientific objectives for self and others.

  • Independently interrogate data generated for the project and use this data to influence strategy of defined scientific area.

  • Design and implement efficient synthetic routes to target compounds using literature searching tools, keeping up to date with modern synthetic methodology.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with key stakeholders, interfacing directly with clients.

  • May be responsible for managing discipline resources and finances within project within an acceptable budget.

  • May contribute to Business Development proposals and face-to-face meetings as a discipline Lead.

  • Contribute to securing new business opportunities, working as a discipline lead to prepare scientific proposals and present to potential new clients.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • PhD qualified within a chemistry related discipline or BSc / MSc qualified within a chemistry related discipline with strong and proven experience in a lab-based environment.

  • Proven experience in a CRO / biotech / pharma setting. 

  • Extensive experience in in synthetic and medicinal chemistry including significant contributions to drug design supporting H2L and/or LO transitions and delivery of publications and/or co-inventorship on patent applications.

  • Experience of interacting closely across disciplines and influencing medicinal chemistry strategy within projects.

  • Broad medicinal chemistry expertise covering different therapeutic areas and project phases across multiple target classes.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to mentor others.

  • Good attention to detail, organisational and time management skills.

  • A dynamic, can-do attitude and a flexible approach to problem solving. Sound scientific judgement which has impacted on the direction and delivery of projects or departmental initiatives.

  • The ability to act proactively and make decisions for self and others.
