Job Summary

We have an opportunity for a motivated and pro-active individual to join the Client Service team at the Charles River Laboratories Portishead site in the UK. The site is focussed on providing state of the art cell biology and pharmacology support to a range of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in areas including immune oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory disease and infection. We work on projects from early drug discovery through to clinical trials.


Work as a Client Manager for assigned sponsors, conducting internal strategic sales and providing centralized, multi-site coordination for response to sponsor requests. Work with marketing, scientific, and financial staff to ensure quality customer service is provided. Participate in strategic business planning and assist in the establishment of department policies and procedures. 


•    Qualify bids and scopes of work with sponsors to ensure appropriate service is provided to the client
•    Understand the sites offerings and keep abreast of new assay development
•    Follow up with scientific teams regarding feasibility and addressing client study needs
•    Prepare costed proposals, study revisions, amendments for FFS or FTE programs
•    Update and maintain applicable databases to log, track and report on sales opportunities. Maintain databases used to monitor operational and financial activities  
•    Prioritize and secure open proposals by working with scientific teams, finance, management and others 
•    Understand scheduling and effective handover to the scientific team to meet client expectations 
•    Identify new business opportunities with sponsors and follow-up with appropriate internal staff 
•    Assist in monitoring sale pricing practices to determine accuracy and relevance to study type and operation processes. Understand profitability
•    Ensure all required legal documents are in place
•    Assist with client visits, along with the support of the Business Assistant and Scientific Team
•    Assist with conferences, co-travel follow-up and marketing incentives
•    Identify possible efficiencies within the Client Services Team, including coordination with other internal groups
•    Work across the wider Charles River Portfolio and Business Units
•    Perform all other related duties as assigned


•    Education:  Higher degree (MSc or PhD) or equivalent in biological sciences or relevant subject. Essential strengths in microbiology and/or molecular biology 
•    Experience:  Experience in client facing roles with project management skills that include scientific, financial and legal stakeholders. Experience in a contract research and/or pharmaceutical setting preferred.  
•    Other:  Capable of working with a minimum of supervision, able to handle multiple tasks, and effectively prioritize based on site goals. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail required.  Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Ability to work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines.
