(Senior) Regulatory Environmental Fate Specialist
About the department:
Our regulatory affairs support is characterized by a tailored, case-by-case approach, depending on specific client needs. We provide full registration dossier services, but also consultancy on the right testing strategy, hazard and risk assessment, support with submission or communication with regulatory authorities and other stakeholders.
In addition, our regulatory affairs services also involve support with the preparation of expert statements/opinions, weights of evidence and study waivers fit for regulatory submission, and writing of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
About the team:
Our internationally working team provides regulatory support for our global chemical, agrochemical, biocidal and pharmaceutical clients.
Our subject-matter experts guide clients in their registration process and support interactions with regulatory authorities with the goal to bring new products to the market while ensuring their safe use and efficacy.
You will work in a team of regulatory affairs experts and cooperate with colleagues from other Charles River departments. Due to Charles River testing facilities, you will have a unique opportunity to work in close contact with experimental departments and will help to place the actual study findings into regulatory perspective.
About your role:
As a (Senior) Regulatory Environmental Fate Specialist, you will apply your scientific knowledge on environmental fate of chemical substances within one or more legislative frameworks (e.g. EU agrochemicals, biocides and/or industrial chemicals) in a challenging environment, while being part of an enthusiastic team. We want you to do what you are good at and want you to develop further. The role requires the ability to think strategically and move confidently between different technical and regulatory topics. You will contribute to complex projects, collaborate closely with colleagues and clients, and share your knowledge within the team.
Your activities may include, depending on your interests, knowledge and experience:
• Critical evaluation and interpretation of environmental fate studies for active substances and relevant metabolites
• Environmental fate modelling using various modelling packages (e.g. FOCUS, GEM, PEARL, PELMO, MACRO, EUSES etc.)
• Compilation of environmental fate sections in dossiers for different legal frameworks (e.g. agrochemicals, biocides, industrial chemicals)
• Data gap analysis, advice on the testing strategy for our clients, literature search
• Depending on your level of expertise, internal peer review and supervision of junior colleagues
• Coordination of complex regulatory projects
• Close collaboration with regulatory team members, CRL study directors, sales and client services, as well as staying in contact with clients, external laboratories and authorities
• Presenting at (inter)national conferences and participating in internal and/or external expert working groups
• Keeping up to date with the regulatory developments in your area of expertise
Your Profile:
• Relevant academic training, focusing on environmental chemistry, environmental toxicology, biology, life sciences and/or (bio)chemistry;
• Strong knowledge of at least one legal framework mentioned above (preferably EU agrochemicals)
• At least 3 years of experience in the field of environmental fate gained in a role with significant technical ownership and responsibility, requiring independent judgement
• Hands-on experience with environmental fate modelling, the ability to run models, critically interpret results and work independently
• Sound knowledge of standard environmental fate studies and relevant OECD guidelines
• Experience in interactions with Competent Authorities is a pre
• Sound basic chemical knowledge is a pre
• Good communicative skills in English, both oral and written; the ability to communicate in Dutch, German, or French is desired, but not critical.
• A proactive and collaborative team player with a strategic mindset, able to navigate complex environmental fate topics and work in a self-learning, result oriented, flexible and critical manner.
Our offer:
We offer a position for 32-40 hours per week in an open-culture and informal atmosphere at our Den Bosch office. For this position, hybrid or remote way of working is also possible, hence the candidates from other EU countries in which Charles River sites are located are also encouraged to apply. Candidates from countries in which no local Charles River sites are present can apply if they are willing to relocate.

• 29.5 vacation days per year;

The salary for this position, based on a 40-hour work week, ranges from €60,000 to €75,000 gross per year. The final salary offer will depend on factors such as your experience, skills, education, and location.
