Job Summary

•    Manage the continuous maintenance of equipment, building repairs and alterations and assigned staff.
•    Assist site management in design of internal renovations, alterations, repairs and building maintenance.
•    Manage all maintenance functions to ensure that the physical plant functions operate in accordance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
•    Assist site management in construction of laboratories, work areas, environmental systems and related projects.
•    Liaison with contractors and vendors for outside services.  
•    Responsible for monitoring progress of assigned areas, while insuring conformance to specifications, including project cost, renovation schedules and obtaining authorization of contract payments.
•    Liaison for design, development and procurement of all facility-related systems.
•    Prepare maintenance and security schedules (including after-hour procedures) and ensure schedule compliance.
•    Monitor safety procedures related to housekeeping and maintenance operations
•    Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function.
•    Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.
•    Assist in the development of short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.
•    Assist in the development and recommendation of departmental budget and authorize expenditures.
•    Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation.
•    Support the policy of equal employment opportunity through affirmative action in personnel actions.
•    Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].
•    Perform all other related duties as assigned.


•    Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Industrial or Commercial Engineering or related discipline 
•    Experience:  Five to ten years related experience in industrial/commercial engineering, facility maintenance (including HVAC) or mechanical and construction background which includes three to five years supervisory experience and experience managing major building projects.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
•    Certification/Licensure:  General contractor’s license desired.  Driver’s license is required.
•    Other:  Ability to interpret commercial blueprints and drawings.  Excellent, professional verbal and written skills necessary for computer e-mails and other appropriate office correspondence.  Excellent leadership skills.  Computer literate in standard office software.  Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.  Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
