Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in San Diego, CA

 

As the Veterinary Technician II, you will perform daily clinical and activities of the veterinary and vivarium staff within the animal care environments at Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL). Assists in management of certain aspects of veterinary programs including clinical rounds, biosecurity, and document review. Ensures the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines, and regulations. 

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Perform regular clinical observations, review, and follow-up with veterinary team on open health cases.
  • Responsible for tissue sampling, routine animal manipulations (e.g., dosing) and administration of fluids or other treatments as required in the course of veterinary duties.
  • Ability to perform or obtain proficiency in specialized model support such as surgical support post-op surgical care and study model clinical scoring for treatment plans or endpoint evaluation.
  • Recommend and perform diagnostic procedures including tissue collection and necropsy.
  • Perform routine reconciliation and audit of controlled substances.
  • Implement the routine health surveillance program according to CRADL SOPs. Ensure all samples are collected correctly and on schedule, are correctly submitted, and ensure results are returned and reviewed within an appropriate time period.
  • Review and approve health reports from routine health surveillance within the vivarium, escalating results for Sr. Veterinary staff to review when needed.
  • Review and approve health screening documentation for incoming animal orders, escalating results for veterinarian review when needed.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of programmatic documents. May initiate the development, revision, and implementation of documents as requested.
  • Participate in Post-Approval Monitoring program by correctly identifying unanticipated experimental outcomes and non-compliance events and reporting them appropriately.
  • Interact with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to be a technical resource for matters pertaining to the vivarium.

 

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Veterinary Technician II position.

 

  • Must have an Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or related discipline.
  • At least two – three (2 - 3) years of veterinary experience or six - twelve (6 - 12) months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.
  • Certified Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification from AALAS. Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG), CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred.

 

The pay range for this position is $33-38 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
