For our Biologics site located in Erkrath, Germany we are seeking

an experienced

 

Sr. Scientist as a Mass Spectrometry & Proteomics Specialist (m/f/d)

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Implement and qualify mass spectrometry equipment at different Charles River sites in Germany and USA
  • Develop and implement highly complex and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based methods to identify, characterize, and quantify proteins from complex protein mixtures.
  • Operate and maintain high-resolution tandem mass spectrometers such as Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris, Lumos, and Q-Exactive and the requisite nano-scale liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis systems.
  • Identify, advise or assist investigators with developing strategies for sample preparation for the use of gel electrophoresis, liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and mass spectrometry to identify, quantify, and characterize proteins and their modifications
  • Perform routine testing in techniques such as the following with a degree of reliability, efficiency and accuracy.
    • Total proteomics, identification and quantification of host cell proteins (HCP)
    • Targeted peptide quantification 
    • Peptide Mapping by LC-UV/MS (MS)
    • Intact Molecular Weight Analyses by LC-UV/MS
    • Sample preparation techniques including protein concentration determination, SDS PAGE, SPE, HPLC Fraction Collection
    • Glycosylation site Mapping 
    • Released N- and O- Linked Glycosylation Profiling
    • Residuals and impurities investigations 
    • Methodologies developed for Orbitrap, QTOF, and Triple Quadrupole
  • Teach staff, students, or fellows advanced techniques in protein analysis by mass spectrometry used in the center through informal discussions or formal workshops offered by the facility.
  • Expand or develop new skills, as needed, based on information from literature, in collaboration with other laboratories or vendors, or by interacting with colleagues at meetings or professional presentations.
  • Responsible for maintaining high-end mass spectrometers, developing and following SOPs, developing and maintaining collaborative connections with the investigators.
  • Independent research in technological developments in proteomics will be strongly encouraged.

 

Qualifications

This position would suit an ambitious, flexible, and team-orientated individual who is motivated to achieve results. The main base of this position would be Erkrath, Germany.  

You will also be expected to have:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) or equivalent in Chemistry/ Biochemistry or related scientific discipline. M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience in Top-Down proteomics, targeted proteomics (SRM/MRM), quantitative proteomics, glycoproteomics and phosphoproteomics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry, protein separation, and identification methods.
  • Experience in leading and motivating people
  • Willingness to travel to EU and non-EU based Charles River sites as needed
  • Strong organizational skills and talent to drive operations in a fast-changing environment
  • Ability to promote constructive and open collaborations and interactions with experts and between different teams in a (matrix) organization
  • Very good communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate with various target groups
  • Fluency in both English and German (oral and written)
