Job Summary

 

We are seeking a Manager/Sr. Manager Facilities for our Discovery site located Durham, NC.
 
Responsible for the management, maintenance and operation of the facility and building systems in compliance with AAALAC accreditation, client and executive management criteria at facility.  Responsible for site physical plant budget including capital expenditures. Responsible for site purchasing, ensuring cost effective procurement of materials, equipment and services.  Manage shipping/receiving and related personnel. 


The following are responsibilities related to the Manager Facilities:

 

  • Oversee management, maintenance and operation of site systems to include the physical plant, laboratory, scientific and support equipment.  
  • Oversee shipping and receiving of materials, supplies, and equipment in accordance to Local, State, Federal and International Laws and Guidelines as set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and / or the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
  • Develop physical plant operating budget.  Authorize expenditures in accordance with departmental budgets.  
  • Assure the availability, coordination and cost effectiveness of all supplies, materials, equipment, and services needed to maintain and operate the facility.  Control and manage inventory levels, analyze data, cost history, vendor quality and performance.  Negotiate contracts and agreements as authorized.
  • Serve as a project manager on special projects in cooperation with management team relating to expansion.  
  • Interface with landlord or leasing company for any lease and building related issues
  • Provide oversight of work performed by vendors and contract personnel in areas such as construction, preventive maintenance, service and repair, calibration and certification. 
  • Direct the implementation and monitoring of the security programs and systems.
  • Manage energy consumption and develop and implement energy conservation strategies in conjunction with Corporate Facilities
  • Manage hazardous waste generation and disposal, ensuring best practices and lowest cost.
  • Ensure continuous coverage/monitoring of emergency response to building, physical plant alarms, scientific equipment, support systems and security alarms.  
  • Ensure compliance to company (SOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols), external regulatory bodies’ (GxP), local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. 
  • Participate on the Heath and Safety Committee and SOP committee as required
  • Design, manage and oversee all aspects of building renovations and construction projects.
  • Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function.
  • Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.
  • Assist in the development of short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.
  • Assist in the development and recommendation of departmental budget and authorize expenditures.
     

Job Qualifications

 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Manager Facilities position:
 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a scientific or related area. 
Experience:  4-6 years related experience in a pharmaceutical laboratory, including 2-4 years previous supervisory/management experience. A minimum of 2 years’ experience with physical plant operations and maintenance as well as procurement and contract negotiation experience.   
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification and Metrology accreditation preferred.
Other:  Working knowledge of building trades in the areas of: electrical, plumbing, mechanical and/or general construction. Ability to multi-task, lead in high stress and crisis situations.  Strong problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, leadership and written/verbal communication skills. Excellent negotiating skills. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations. Working and practical knowledge of the AAALAC Accreditation Standards as outlined by “The Guide” and International ISO / GMP / GLP Standards as dictated in the BioPharma industry. Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Network 8000, Signal Programming, Lawson).


The pay range for this position is $100,000 to $110,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
