Job Summary

Charles River is seeking an IACUC Coordinator for our Insourcing Solutions Department located in South San Francisco, CA.


Responsible for coordinating IACUC functions and the IACUC review process, including performing administrative reviews of protocols including review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.  Review, comprehend and comply with Animal Welfare Act, the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, CRADL policies and Guidelines and other applicable regulations and policies. Develops and maintains good client relationships. Generates reports for facility inspections and program reviews and maintains the IACUC databases. Performs recordkeeping, reporting to regulatory agencies and maintaining documentation for regulatory accreditation and licensure. Assignments involve work of an extremely confidential or complex nature.  Assist in maintaining the calendar for Institute Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) meetings, Semi-Annual site inspections and Semi-Annual Program Reviews, and AAALAC site visits. Set up appointments and keep central calendar of key dates for group projects. Generate semi-annual inspection and program review reports. Schedule and assist the IACUC with conducting facility inspections. Assist in ensuring procedures and practices involving the program of animal care are appropriate for continued AAALAC accreditation of the client facilities.


The following are minimum qualifications related to the IACUC position:

  • Education:  Bachelors Degree or above in Animal Science or related field.
  • Experience:  Minimum of three to five years administrative experience and 2 years working in animal programs supporting veterinary staff or scientists required.  IACUC experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Technician (ALAT) level or higher.
  • Other: Familiarity with OLAW and AAALAC regulations and the “the Guide” preferred. Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Office, word processing and database record keeping required. Comprehension of medical terminology preferred.
