Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Bacteriology Technician Floater to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD. 

 

As the Bacteriology Technician Floater, you will perform routine accessioning on all incoming samples for bacteriology procedures, set up and process environmental swabs to identify bacteria, perform quality control of research studies, support the daily operations of the bacteriology lab, and assist in Animal Health Surveillance as needed. 

 

Additional responsibilities include: 

  • Access, set up, and run all incoming samples. Update the WebHealth database and keep written logs of all accessioned samples. Access and plate environmental submissions. Plate incubated broths onto appropriate media. 
  • Perform routine gross necropsy, parasitology, and examinations of animals. Collect and prepare tissue for further evolution in the PCR, bacteriology, and parasitology labs. Prepare blood samples for shipment to be tested.  
  • Gather and prepare laboratory materials (plates, slides, blood tubes, etc.). Examine various parasitology samples. 
  • Keep daily, weekly, and monthly records of instrument maintenance and performance. Repair certain mechanical malfunctions when possible. 
  • Create a variety of worksheets and spreadsheets to make the lab more organized. Organize, unpack, and rotate stock while checking expiration dates.  
  • Assist with the receipt, stocking and ordering of supply inventories; ensure appropriate levels of supplies are maintained. 
  • Assist with slide preparation and staining. 

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Bacteriology Technician Floater position: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline 

  • experience in a laboratory environment preferred, either through employment or school 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. 

The pay range for this position is $24 - $26 per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
