Job Summary

We are on a mission to make the Enterprise Data Analytics team be the backbone of today’s business, as data-driven decision-making enables business leaders to make informed choices quickly to boost revenue, improve productivity, and stay a step ahead of the market. We have already launched our own Enterprise Data Hub, the digital backbone of this company, and we need more leaders in the data analytics discipline who are forward thinking, self-guided and innovative to continue to build out the hub across our lines of business, integrating all of our data, mastering data and focusing on data quality to fundamentally shift the way Charles River operates through data science and advanced analytics.

Our collective focus over the coming, multi-year journey is to enable this extraordinary group of people - our 18,000 colleagues - to execute and achieve our ambitious business goals.  We are taking Charles River to a place where Enterprise Data Analytics team will be applying the techniques of data management, data engineering, and strategy development, as well as the use of analytics techniques that range from forecasting and simulation to linear programming and optimization and we want you to join us.

The following are responsibilities related to the Associate Director, Enterprise Data Governance

 

•    Lead the creation of a data roadmap that will result in improving and sustaining data quality in the company.  
•    Lead the development of data governance practices to successfully operationalize data quality, manage master data and reference data, and leverage Best in Class data management practices.
•    Establish and maintain a strong data governance structure within the Enterprise Data to ensure proper oversight over data creation, management and sharing. 
•    develop governance framework together with business teams to nurture a culture of accountability for complete & accurate data
•    Foster relationships with key business partners and stakeholders to ensure that the business is well positioned to achieve the business and financial objectives.
•    Manage portfolio of data governance operations projects/strategic initiatives: from prioritization of initiatives and management of backlog, to creation of project and communication plans
•    Propose improvements to make operational activities more effective, efficient and consistent across business units, in partnership with key Data Stakeholders; Standardize processes and operational assets for better data quality and effectiveness
•    Ensure quality of operational assets (e.g. Governance Templates, Business Glossary, Data Policies, Data Catalog)
•    Improve data trust, data literacy, data accessibility and operational efficiency by ensuring adherence to data quality and master data standards & KPIs. 
•    Ensure master data is clean, relevant, and complete, as per the data governance standards.
•    Represent, advocate, and ensure compliance of Data Governance processes and policies as part of enterprise wide cross-functional projects
•    Serve as a subject matter expert for CRL data and be a sounding board to internal partners for new business ideas or insights on data and managed technology capabilities.

Job Qualifications


The following are minimum requirements related to the Associate Director, Enterprise Data Governance position.
 
•    Bachelor’s or master’s degree from accredited university in Computer Science, Data Management, Business Administration or equivalent program.   Master’s degree preferred.
•    7+ years of relevant experience in Data Management, Data Governance, Data Quality Management.
•    5+ years of experience in leading data governance process creation and standardization
•    3+ years people management skills in master data management and data governance.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
•    Proven ability to translate data governance requirements into business outcomes
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and extensive knowledge in enterprise data-centric solutions
•    Strong experience in facilitating discussions and developing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders from various organizations (IT, finance, sales, marketing, operations, etc. ...) 
•    Excellent ability to gather, synthesize, organize and interpret data and information to formulate insights, options, and recommendations.
•    Strong written and spoken communication skills with the ability to work closely with a wide and diverse range of groups and functional disciplines.
•    Leadership and people management skills sufficient to motivate a team faced with significant change while contributing to business objectives.
•    Strong project management skills in order to manage daily operations and or monitor the success of projects 
•    Familiarity with MS Office products and SQL

The following are strongly desired:
 
•    Agile experience particularly as Certified Scrum Master or Product Owner
•    Certified Data Management Professional or equivalent
•    Willingness to help mature Agile practices for the team and lead some ceremonies such as standups, sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, and backlog grooming
•    Experience in Life Sciences industry with master data and analytics solutions
•    Strong intellectual curiosity, eager to learn new technologies and adapt solutions.
