Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Animal Care Technician II to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in South San Francisco, CA.

 

As the Animal Care Technician II, you will observe, monitor, and document the health and physical environment within the Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) animal facility. Perform routine and specialized animal care tasks to include the cleaning, feeding, watering of laboratory animals, and study specific husbandry services. Collaborate with the veterinary staff to ensure the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines, and regulations.

Job Qualifications

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Monitor animal health daily through observation.
  • Provide proper food, water, and housing for animals.
  • Clean cages and change bedding as needed.
  • Record any animal health concerns according to established procedures.
  • Dispose of waste materials safely and responsibly.
  • Assist with restraining, handling, and manipulating animals as directed.
  • Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals.
  • Manage cage cards, including printing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Enter data into approved software for billing and animal tracking.
  • Conduct animal censuses using handheld scanners.
  • Monitor and maintain client assignments in animal holding rooms.
  • Perform non-invasive procedures such as weight checks, food and water intake monitoring, animal identification, and basic sample collection.
  • Assist with post-surgical care and record-keeping.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in all animal research areas.

 

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Animal Care Technician II position.

 

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred.
  • Minimum of six - twelve (6-12) months directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility or basic technical skills (dosing, tissue collection).
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification from AALAS. Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification preferred.

The pay range for this position is $25.50 - 27.50 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
