Job Summary

We are looking for a Surgical Veterinary Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA.

In the Surgical Veterinary Technician role, you can do that by providing support to the surgical services program and performing technical functions necessary for animal health to ensure the integrity of the research.

What you will do! 

In the Surgical Veterinary Technician role, you will work closely with the Veterinarian to perform daily health assessments of the USDA covered species in the Surgical Services Program and maintain all records as needed and associated with this monitoring as well as provide animal treatments as instructed by the Veterinarian. In addition, you will perform technical functions required by necessity for animal health including daily clinical observations, administering medications, and health assessments of sick animals prior to reporting adverse findings to Veterinarian responsible for that area. 

The SVT will also ensure receipt of new animals, including generating records, and doing an initial health assessment and monitor recovery of post-operative animals, including recording vital signs and provide basic anesthetic monitoring, recording vital signs as well as generate treatment sheets and treatment plans as prescribed by the veterinarian. Prepare ORs for cases, maintain equipment and ensure it’s in proper working order, make instrument packs, and prepare reports, monthly drug order charts, and inventories.  
 

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses an Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) in veterinary technology or equivalent college level program.  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal science preferred. Must have (6) months animal handle experience in animal research as well as veterinary technical skills. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education/experience listed.  AALAS certification at the ALAT or above OR successful achievement of ALAT certification within one (1) year required. Veterinary Technician licensure of CVT or LVT is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - 36.00 USD per hour.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location
