Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Deputy Program Manager to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.
 

As the Deputy Program Manager, you will oversee the operations and a staff of animal care supervisors, research support staff, veterinary and animal care technician, and animal facility attendants for a multi facility contract. Act as a corporate liaison to designated contract business clients to assess contract performance; supervise record maintenance, generate external/internal reports, and prepare/submit records, charts, logs, and inventories.
 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist in assessing, developing, and presenting training to staff and investigators; develop course content/materials for training & continuing education for staff to achieve AALAS certification.
  • Participate in activities such as recruitment, separation, writing performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee programs/activities.
  • Investigate personnel problems, develop performance improvement plans, and provide counseling to employees.
  • Actively interact with clients to resolve various inquiries, requests, and complaints.
  • Participate in the development of projections for equipment, supplies, and personnel needed to effectively operate the research facilities.
  • Assist facility managers and staff in the selection and purchase of animal care related equipment.
  • Develop, review, and write site specific standard operating procedures for the care of laboratory animals, and the operation of the facility.
  • Assist in the review and analysis of operational needs; make recommendations to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of animal care services.
  • Serve as temporary backfill for Facility Managers during vacancies; assist with ensuring animal care staff perform all tasks at or above standards.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with staff to ensure awareness of current and future projects, policies, and procedures.
  • On occasion, review site QA procedures for various functions within the facility such as animal health surveillance, cagewash/autoclaves, animal shipments, and the HVAC.

 

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Deputy Program Manager:

  • High school diploma required; BS degree in Animal Sciences or Biological Sciences is preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience working in a large complex animal program, 4 years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in specialty areas, such as rodent, rabbit, and NHP (Non-Human Primate) facilities management, barrier management, hazard containment, and animal facility data management are needed.
  • Must be LATG (Laboratory Animal Technologist) certified; preference given to CMAR certification.

The pay range for this position is $120K to $130K USD annually.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
