Job Summary

We are seeking a Technologist for our GEMS-Embryology Department located in Wilmington, MA

 

Performs a variety of technical procedures related to the creation of genetically engineered models, as directed by the laboratory supervisor including laboratory cleaning, reagent preparation, rodent handling, dissection and injections (mice/rats), basic cell culture with aseptic techniques, handling of frozen material in liquid nitrogen. Certain lab procedures may require work to be done under hoods (Biological Safety Cabinets/Laminar Flow).  Animal work may be done through Isolators or Individually ventilated racks (IVC).  Assist in preparation of small animal surgery including vasectomies and embryo transfer. May assist in performs rodent embryo and sperm collection for cryopreservation. Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operating equipment and supplies per safety and ergonomic guidelines.

 

The following are minimum requirements related to the Technologist position.

 

  • Education:  High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.)./ BA in Biology preferred.
  • Experience:  One to Two years related experience in and/or training in animal husbandry.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure:  Preference will be given for AALAS certification at the Assistant Technician or its equivalentPerforms a variety of complex technical procedures related to the creation of genetically engineered models, including pronuclear, cytoplasmic, and embryonic stem cell microinjection, handling and preparation of ES cell cultures. Performs small animal surgery including vasectomies and embryo transfer. Performs rodent embryo and sperm collection for cryopreservation.
