Job Summary

We are seeking a Payroll Manager for our Charles River Labs Corporate site located Wilmington, MA.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of North America Payroll, the Payroll Manager is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of the North American payroll, resolving complex payroll issues, analyzing and auditing data.  Manages a team of experienced payroll professionals responsible for full-cycle payroll processing, customer service and various reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

The following are responsibilities related to the Payroll Manager:

  • Oversee the payroll team and provides support with the execution of payroll in accordance with defined processes.
  • Responsible for personnel management activities such as: providing regular direction and feedback on performance, cross training and cross coverage, annual performance reviews, recommendations for promotions and salary changes, training and development, hiring and terminations decisions, etc.
  • Preparation and maintenance of accurate records and reporting of payroll transactions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws, statutory reporting and filing requirements.
  • Provide customer and stakeholder support for issues that arise and develop a plan for problem resolution along with mitigation of issues on a go-forward basis.
  • Responsible for SOX controls within the payroll organization, and actively participate in audits (internal and external).
  • Support and process accurate and timely year-end activities for W-2s, T4s, etc.
  • Work with State and Local tax jurisdictions/agencies to ensure new setup and closure of applicable Income Tax Withholding, Unemployment Tax Withholding, and various Local Tax withholding accounts.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, leading to greater efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, IT, HRIS, Finance and Accounting on key projects and requests.
  • Support acquisition integration, system implementations and upgrades.
  • Support other regulatory activities as needed, including local, state, IRS, and workers compensation audits
  • Interprets company policies and government regulations affecting payroll.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements

The following are minimum requirements related to the Payroll Manager position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related discipline.
  • Ten plus years of multi-state payroll experience, with a minimum 3 years of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Proven track record of leading a geographically distributed team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical mindset with good judgement and high level of attention to details and accuracy.
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer centric approach.
  • Project management experience with the ability to develop, plan and implement process improvements
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with leading payroll platform,
Preferred Qualifications

The following are preferred qualifications related to the Payroll Manager position:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other payroll-related designation.
  • ADP Workforce Now experience.
  • Multi-country (North America) experience.
