Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director, IT Monitoring Services for our Information Technology group.
This is a global position that employees from all sites can apply to.


The CRL IT organization is looking for an energetic professional to build and manage an IT Monitoring service within the IT Service Delivery group. This service provides 24x7 monitoring of the global IT production environment. The IT Monitoring team will be responsible for providing performance and status information for all global IT systems and for the collection of monitoring data that can be trended over time to identify system issues before they become incidents. The Director, IT Monitoring Services will develop the strategy for IT monitoring services and will work closely with other IT service areas to ensure this strategy is aligned to the overall strategy for IT and the Charles River business.
 

  • Accountable for building and maintaining a high performing team capable of 
    • 24x7 monitoring of the global IT Production Environment
    • Defining alert thresholds for system performance and capacity events. Thresholds should be set such that potential issues are identified before they become full incidents.
    • Engaging with support or service teams to remediate events detected by monitoring services.
    • Monitoring of batch processes. Alert system owners and customers when batch jobs do not complete as expected.
    • Providing dashboards and reports on current and historical performance of the IT environment. This information should be accessible by all levels in IT.
  • Accountable for defining and enabling the practices for delivery of IT services.
  • Accountable for maximizing the flow of work through the IT Monitoring team while delivering on our Value Promise:  on-time, on-budget, on-quality.
     

The following are minimum requirements related to the Director, IT Monitoring Services position.
 

Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in computer science, engineering, business administration or related discipline.
Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years IT experience. Life sciences industry experience preferred.
Other:

  • Effective communication skills for large, multi-national audiences.
  • Management acumen – Solid understanding and demonstrated ability to:
  • Build and manage a high performing team.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including collaboration, influencing & aligning.
  • High Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
  • Relationship building.
  • Business acumen – Experience managing budgets, understanding of customer value.
  • Understanding of IT Service Management frameworks and practices (ie ITIL).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
