Job Summary

We are seeking a Associate Director, IT Platforms for our Information Technology group.

The CRL IT organization is looking for an energetic professional to lead the IT Platforms team within the IT Service Delivery group. The Platforms services team will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the global IT production platforms in a controlled and compliant manner. They will also be responsible for the delivery of standard, repeatable IT services which are advertised and requested via the IT Service Catalog. The Associate Director of IT Platform services will help develop the strategy for platform delivery and will work closely with other IT service areas to ensure this strategy is aligned to the overall strategy for IT and the Charles River business

  • Accountable for completing work assignments as fast as possible to the quality necessary.


The following are responsibilities related to the Assoicate Director, IT Platforms:


  • Build and manage a high performing team capable of
    • Executing moves, adds, changes (MAC) to the platforms production environment. The production environment will span both cloud and on-premise solutions.
    • Building and maintaining the Service Catalog. Define cost, effort and equipment requirements for each service offered
    • Fulfilling Service Requests made from the Service Catalog
    • Contributing to the CAB meeting and maintaining the CMDB
    • Maintaining the IT production environment: e.g. Patching, upgrade of platform systems
    • Develops procedures and policies for platform service delivery
    • Initiates ongoing review and recommendation for improvement and platform refresh
  • Supporting the IT production environment. Developing the expertise within the team to troubleshoot and resolve complex incidents that arise with the IT production environment.
  • Team selection and induction: Recruit best fit talent.
  • Build Relationships: Build the personal connections that foster trust, commitment, and teamwork.
  • Teambuilding: Encourage activities and dialogue to motivate team members to increase the overall performance of the team.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: Develop team members so they can perform and deliver the best possible results; Mentor team members two levels removed for purposes of development and succession.
  • Context setting: Communicate mid and long-term strategy and goals of the organization and any relevant background necessary to understand task assignment.
  • Planning: Ensure team members understand the business value of what they’re doing and can articulate it in planning sessions.
  • Commitments: Ensure commitments are met.
  • Task Assignment & Adjustment: Lead team by providing a clear articulation of direction and expectations (PC/QSTR); Control the level of work in progress to optimize flow for each direct report, adjusting to changing conditions.
  • Monitoring: Measure the team’s performance against organizational goals.
  • Continuous Improvement: Ensure continuous improvement of operations (POOGI – Process of ongoing improvement).
  • Appraisal: Provide feedback on performance.
  • De-selection/dismissal: Remove team members from roles as appropriate.
  • Adhere to pertinent regulatory requirements and to company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Contribute to financial budgets and forecasts to remain within commitments while achieving goals.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned. 


The following are minimum qualifications related to the position:

Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in computer science, engineering, business administration or related discipline.

Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years IT experience. Life sciences industry experience preferred..

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including collaboration, influencing & aligning.
  • High Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
  • Relationship building.
  • Business acumen – Experience managing budgets, understanding of customer value.
  • Understanding of IT Service Management frameworks and practices (ie ITIL)
