Job Summary

Plans, designs and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Inspects or directs the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.

We are seeking a Plant Service Engineer for our Safety Assesment site located in Tranent.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Plant Service Engineer:

 

Working as a Plant Service Engineer, you’ll join a team who carry out a range of maintenance, fault finding and repair duties in a large campus style estate.  Working within a small maintenance team on a wide variety of plant there is an expectation that the successful applicant will be multi skilled and flexible. The post requires the ability to work at height as well as in enclosed spaces, and the post holder must also be able to negotiate crawl spaces.  Practical experience of fault finding on a range of plant and equipment systems is desirable.

 

Applicants should ideally have:-

  • A time-served mechanical engineer qualification
  • Experience of HVAC systems, air compressors and steam condensers
  • Competence in fabrication using a variety of materials
  • Experience in the use of basic machine tools would be an advantage
  • A full driving licence

 

Due to the nature of this role, you must also be able to work outwith normal office hours, as required and as a member of a rotational on-call response team, for which an on-call allowance will be payable.

Starting salary for this position is £25,021. 

Successful candidates will be appointed to the bottom of the pay band if they have no relevant experience.

In exceptional circumstances where the candidate has relevant equivalent experience, this will be taken into consideration.
