Job Summary

We are seeking Necropsy Team Lead to join our Integrated Toxicology (ITox) team at the Kansas City (CR-KAN) Site.  This site is the first of its kind, bridging CRL’s Discovery and Safety Assessment business units, while bringing automation to standard lead optimization toxicology study models to deliver rapid study results to our clients.  When you join our family, you will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of people across the globe. This role will provide leadership on all technical activities in necropsy. Areas include supervision, scheduling, study assignment setup, database management, and gross pathology findings, while actively promoting teamwork.  The Necropsy Team Lead is expected to optimize necropsy functions to fit the integrated toxicology paradigm and provide expertise in Necropsy to other staff and visitors as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
⦁    Work with the leadership team on continuous optimization opportunities within Necropsy and across the site
⦁    Oversee site necropsy procedures to ensure they are standardized, performed consistently, and recorded correctly
⦁    Work within a high paced environment, requiring transparency and excellent communication skills
⦁    Strong leadership qualities including an “agile” mindset; understanding, collaborating, learning, and staying flexible to achieve high-performing results
⦁    Assist in the review of necropsy raw data
⦁    Confirm necropsy observations
⦁    Promote teamwork within the necropsy department and between other departments
⦁    Ensure accurate, high-quality work, and adherence to departmental policies, practices, and procedures [including SOPs, BOPs, safety procedures and biosafety protocols]
⦁    Ensure Necropsy scheduling is transparent across the team, including weekday and weekend necropsy laboratory assignments
⦁    Communicate scheduling needs effectively and consistently to the team, confirming team member expectations are clear and understood
⦁    Assist/provide input to supervisor/manager regarding personnel management activities such as: scheduling, training, and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance
⦁    Train staff on necropsy related activities
⦁    Ensure tissues slides, and blocks are packed, archived, and shipped according to protocol Act as floor support during necropsy; troubleshoot delays, communicate with Clinical Pathology, In Life, Histology, and other departments to provide timely necropsy starts
⦁    Attend site team meetings to confirm necropsy procedures
⦁    May occasionally work weekend/holidays and/or rotating on-call schedule
⦁    Perform other related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
⦁   Education and experience: HS/GED with 5 or more years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field with 3 or more years small and large animal necropsy experience; contract research organization experience preferred.
⦁    Experience:  3 or more years of small and large animal necropsy experience preferred 
⦁    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
⦁    Certification/Licensure:  ALAT, LAT or LATg certification preferred 
⦁    Other:  Good communication, time management and leadership skills  Must be able to meet all requirements and competencies of a Necropsy Technician III

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
⦁    Employees must be able to lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds; this includes work materials, equipment, and/or animals
⦁    Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing, or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards
⦁    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
⦁    Works in a research laboratory environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles, working at noise levels ranging from quiet to moderately noisy
 

The pay range for this position is $25/hour+.  Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.”
