Veterinary Technologist

We are seeking a Veterinary Technologist for our CRADL Insourcing Solutions site located in South San Francisco, CA.

The following are responsibilities related to the Veterinary Technologist :

  • Monitors daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health and clinical observations. Record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
  • Completes veterinary services activities for research animals inclusive of: performing dosing, injections, pre-operative animal procedures and post-operative animal monitoring
  • Completes environmental and social housing assessments
  • Assessment and paper and/or electronic recordkeeping of clinical observation and treatment with necessary communications with veterinary staff and researchers.
  • Performs animal husbandry duties as needed to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: observation and provision of daily water bottle and feed; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required
  • Regular clinical observation review and follow-up with veterinarian and response to emergency cases.
  • Assists in overseeing and maintaining quality performance of IS division and client objectives inclusive of: meeting/exceeding company standards with respect to animal health and welfare, facility and equipment condition, housekeeping, sanitation levels and environmental health, safety and security within the vivarium by compliance to state and federal requirements as well as CRL quality assurance standards.
  • Provides input for husbandry services, the husbandry schedule and may provide husbandry duties in the event of staffing need which includes feed, water, health checks; cage changing. Provides feedback to Project Manager on performance of husbandry duty completion and accuracy.

 

Veterinary Technoligist
  • Performs technical services tasks to include technical equipment operation (IVIS and euthanasia, etc.), surgical pre or post-operative recovery monitoring and support, basic and advanced in vivo technical services (dosing, bleeding, tissue harvest collection, etc.) requested by clients.
  • Conducts routine inspection of all animal holding and support facilities to determine the degree to which established levels of animal health, facilities condition, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security are being met/exceeded.
  • Presents training on basic husbandry and technical procedures to staff or clients.
  • Interacts with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to be a technical resource for matters pertaining to the vivarium. Channels non-vivarium and significant concerns or issues to the Project Manager for resolution.
  • Participates in the development, revision, implementation and training of site-specific standard operating procedures (SOP's), in compliance with all state, federal and industry requirements.
  • Generate and submit internal and external reports in the required formats and timeframes.
  • Reports operations-related issues to Project Manager and non-compliance or animal welfare issues to the Attending Veterinarian.
  • Reviews and approves health screening documentation for incoming non-approved vendor animals and movement of unacceptable health status or quarantined) animals throughout the vivarium as well as manages review of health status, health monitoring of sentinels and other diagnostic testing necessary within the vivarium.
Veterinary Technologist

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Veterinary Technologist position:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science, Veterinary Technician or related field required or equivalent of Associates of Veterinary Technology with five years of directly related experience to the technical duties listed above.
  • Experience:  Three to four years in a laboratory animal facility preferred. Demonstrated successful experience in the clinical care, technical and husbandry of rodent laboratory animal models required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements as listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) is required. Veterinary Technician licensure of CVT or LVT is preferred.
