Job Summary

 

The Research Anesthetis, helps in the development of new anesthesia procedures performed on research animals in addition to supporting anesthesia of animal models with greater anesthetic risks. The associate supports training of new procedures and ensures proper execution of existing procedures. The associate works with scientific, veterinary and technical staff to support the development of animal models for studies and to ensure proper activity flow on study.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • To adhere to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and organizational Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs).
  • To work closely with Principal Research Associate to develop and refine anesthesia procedures using literature review and consultants when appropriate.
  • To work closely with Principal Research Associate to develop and implement new procedures related with the animals or with the equipment.
  • Ensure study specific anesthesia monitoring and support in a wide variety of laboratory animal species. 
  • To help support to different departments by providing anesthesia procedures oversight on study, technical advice and expertise.
  • To provide adequate and appropriate training of technical staff on anesthesia related topics.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

  • General office working conditions; the noise level is usually quiet.
  • Exposure to laboratories and research animals.
  • Works with live animals (small, medium, large) with risks of exposure to allergens/zoonotic diseases.
  • Wears protective clothing (goggles, mask, gloves, cap, face shield, boots).

Job Qualifications


•    Education: Minimum high school diploma.  DEC (Animal health technician) is considered an asset
•    Experience: Minimum 2 years of anesthesia induction/monitoring/recovery in a variety of species

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
CALAS certification is an asset.

 

EXIGENCES PHYSIQUES

 

Work within the vivarium to support the needs of the studies.

Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Must regularly communicate with employees/customers; must be able to exchange accurate information.

Employee is occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds.
