Job Summary


Charles River are looking for highly experienced crystallographers to work within the Structural and Biophysics team at Cambridge, UK.  Successful candidates will play an influential role in shaping our drug development programs in close collaboration with our clients.  We are looking for top candidates who will have the opportunity to work in a fast paced dynamic CRO environment. 


Main Duties and Responsibilities


Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing structural information to support projects across our therapeutic areas and, in collaboration with project teams, present critical data to clients.  The role is delivery focused and requires the ability to independently develop rational experiments and trouble shoot when required.  You will lead by example and support and mentor team members as required.  You will be called upon to prepare detailed proposals and work schedules for clients covering experimental design, timeline/resource planning and costing. A key part of experimental design will be the ability to design protein expression constructs for crystallisation of repeat literature and unpublished protein targets. You will also be expected to manage client projects and this will include leadership and guidance of multidisciplinary project teams.


 Essential Requirements

  • Ph.D or equivalent experience with track-record of delivering crystallographic structural projects (i.e publications, PDB depositions)
  • Experience of leading and managing drug discovery project teams.
  • 5 or more years' industrial experience within drug discovery programs and proven track record of solving protein-ligand/fragment structures independently
  • Experience of protein crystallisation and trouble shooting
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with effective presentation of work and data to project teams and clients
  • Ability to problem solve, work independently and deliver to deadlines

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of other biophysical techniques (SPR, DSF, ITC, NMR)
  • Experience of fragment based screening
  • Project management
  • Experience of protein expression (E.coli, insect cells or mammalian) and purification using commonly used chromatography systems
