Job Summary

We are seeking a Facilities Assistant on a 6 month contract for our Early Discovery site located primarily in Saffron Walden, but with occasional visits to our Harlow site.


The position is a maintenance and facilities-related role, working under general guidance, executing a broad range of tasks that contribute to the day-to-day operation of the facility. You'll be hands on and be expected to build strong working relationships with our scientific operations team, health and safety team and office staff. 


Main Duties: 

•    Undertake daily Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks across a wide range of equipment.
•    Coordinate planned maintenance such as fire extinguishers, extract fans, air handling units (AHU’s), circulating pumps, water sampling, drain flushing and filter changes.
•    Responding to ad hoc maintenance issues throughout the day and carrying out basic maintenance, e.g. changing lamps, minor repairs and basic electrical works, water treatments and de-scaling. 
•    Carrying out inspection checks and tests for the following: monthly fire safety checks; monthly emergency light checks; monitoring health and safety in terms of regular inspection and safe use of equipment.
•    Monitor the Building Management System (BMS) daily and respond to any issues in a timely manner to keep the facility operational.
•    Provide general support for the Facilities Manager and the Facilities Maintenance Engineers.



The following are minimum requirements related to the Facilities Assistant position:

•    Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex messages to key stakeholders.
•    Excellent people skills – being able to deal with internal and external stakeholders across the business at all levels.
•    Practical / hands-on maintenance skills.
•    Forensic attention to detail and strong ownership of tasks.
•    Intermediate IT skills
•    Electrical qualification (desirable).
•    A strong interest in mechanical engineering and a willingness to learn.
•    Proactive analytical attitude.
•    Strong team player.
