Job Summary

As part of our continued success, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to join our multi-disciplinary team as Associate Director, DMPK at our Cambridge site in the UK. The successful candidate will have demonstrated DMPK scientific and strategic leadership skills, be an excellent collaborator through effective interactions with colleagues across disciplines, across Charles River companies and with existing and potential clients.  

 

You will be influential within DMPK and be a positive role model across disciplines, and someone who proactively manages the performance and development of direct and indirect reports. There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to lead and evolve how we provide in vivo support (e.g. PK, PK/PD, efficacy, early toxicity studies) to our client projects in collaboration with other Charles River companies.   

 

Main responsibilities 
•    To provide managerial, operational and scientific leadership within the DMPK department, with responsibility for performance management, objective setting and providing feedback in a matrix management environment.
•    To coach and motivate the team whilst mentoring across disciplines. 
•    To define operational best practice for discovery in vivo support to client projects through collaboration with other Charles River companies performing the studies and DMPK, Biology and Chemistry Discovery project leads using the data to make decisions. 
•    To provide ADME/DMPK expertise, including PK/PD and dose to man predictions, to drug discovery projects and innovate to help define project strategy and deliver on agreed project objectives.  To help develop others to perform this role.
•    To successfully troubleshoot scientific and business related issues.
•    To collaborate with colleagues in Business Development to prepare proposals and present to potential new clients. Promote high scientific visibility of CRL Discovery capabilities within CRL and externally.
•    To be a positive role model and value the importance of maintaining a positive workplace culture through empowering and engaging staff.
•    To ensure resources and finances are managed appropriately.

Profile and Requirements

•    Extensive DMPK based experience in an industrial drug discovery setting with a proven track record in advancing discovery projects to pre-clinical development.
•    Broad experience of the management, mentoring and scientific direction of scientists ideally in a matrix environment.
•    Extensive experience in all aspects of modern- day approaches used in DMPK covering in vitro, in vivo and computational tools used to support drug discovery projects.
•    Exceptional problem-solving skills, sound scientific, operational and financial judgement and high-quality decision making, which impacts positively on company deliverable.
•    Background in working closely with colleagues in chemistry, biology, in vivo DMPK and pharmacology units.
•    Ability to communicate confidently with partners/colleagues via teleconferences, presentations and written reports.
•    A dynamic and flexible approach towards achieving partner-based objectives and meeting challenging deadlines.
•    Experience of identifying and implementing process change, including demonstration of the people skills required to enact change management.

•    As a people leader there is a requirement for you to have an onsite presence (Chesterford Park, Saffron Walden, near Cambridge, UK) for a proportion of your working week.  Hybrid and flexible working options that work for you can be discussed.
