We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Veterinarian for our Safety Assessment site located in Reno, Nevada


The Senior Staff Veterinarian will work veterinary, behavior, scientific and in-life technical staff to provide veterinary services on safety assessment studies.  The successful applicant will provide veterinary care to nonhuman primates, canines, rodents and rabbits.  The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting physical exams, ophthalmological exams, neurological exams and other veterinary procedures for animals on study.  He/she will work with the Director to ensure regulatory compliance with USDA, OLAW, AAALAC and FDA requirements pertaining to animal base research.  He/she will work with the IACUC, Study Directors and Sponsors on study design and assessment of study outcomes.  He/she may be a member of the IACUC and may supervise veterinary technicians.  Periodic travel to assess vendors or to other Charles River sites may be required.


The following are minimum requirements related to the Senior Staff Veterinarian position.


  • Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) or international equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine required.  Two years supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state required.  Ability to practice veterinary medicine in the work state highly desirable.  ACLAM eligibility or certification is highly desired.
  • Computer literacy (Windows PC) WordPerfect and Excel.  Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.  Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and guidelines that govern animal research, research conduct principles (GLP) and current methodology of laboratory animal medicine and management is important.
