Job Summary

Cares for the animals used in research and development studies. Performs duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment by laboratory technician or maintaining inventory and animal identification records. Performs cleaning/sanitation of animal facility and equipment. Responsible for bio-safety and bio-security of the animals. May partner with pre-clinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-op care and monitoring of animal studies.

We are seeking a Animal Care Technician I for our Insourcing Solutions site located Research Triangle Park, N.C.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the Animal Care Technician I:

 

⦁    Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas.
⦁    Assist in performing anesthesia induction and maintenance of laboratory animals (injectible and inhalation).
⦁    Support research staff in anesthesia monitoring, pre-op and post-op care and documentation in GLP format of all procedures and care.
⦁    Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and  water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols.
⦁    Maintain accurate records of animal health, and housing or support areas as required by Institute and facility. 
⦁    Perform pen/run daily cleaning of swine housing rooms as described in customer SOPs.
⦁    Perform decontamination of permanent and mobile swine housing rooms and equipment as described in facility procedures.
⦁    Receipt, inspection, identification, transportation and housing of all incoming animals under direct supervision. Assist in the ear tagging of rabbits as needed.
⦁    Acclimation of swine as directed by Supervisor.
⦁    Assist in the disposal of animal carcasses and maintenance of incinerator and all relevant documentation following established procedures.
⦁    Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, spraying in all equipment and materials into controlled areas.
⦁    Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.
⦁    Assist Sr.staff with setting up surgical suites, induction of anesthesia and pre and post operative monitoring as required.
 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Animal Care Technician I position:

  • Education/ Experience:  High School Diploma with a minimum of 1 year experience plus ALAT/LAT required within 1 year OR, AS/BS degree with LAT required within 6 months of eligibility.
