Senior Scientist - Immunology

We have an opportunity for a motivated and pro-active individual to join the scientific team at the Charles River Laboratories Portishead site in the UK. The site is focussed on providing state of the art cell biology and pharmacology support to a range of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in areas including immune oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory disease and infection. We work on projects from early drug discovery through to clinical trials.

The successful applicants will join a dynamic and flexible team using a variety of state of the art laboratory techniques as part of in vitro and ex vivo studies (pre-clinical and clinical).  There will be ample scope for the individual to run projects, develop new assays and thereby expand the repertoire of expertise within the team.  As a Senior Scientist the successful candidate will support their line manager in planning and overseeing execution of projects, interacting with pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients directly to report on progress and discuss data and next steps.

The vacancies exist within our Cell Biology/Analytical teams, who develop and run a wide range of immunological assays using techniques such as flow cytometry, Luminex, Nanostring, ELISA, qPCR, confocal microscopy and culture of primary cells and cell lines.  Post holders will work on exciting novel treatments for human diseases, making a genuine contribution to moving potential new drugs into the clinic. Charles River Portishead offers a supportive environment in which training and progression are provided.


•    PhD or equivalent experience with a strong background in Immunology and a good command of biomedical sciences.
•    Some experience in developing, optimizing and executing biological assays ideally in a pharma or biotech setting.
•    Highly organised with an ability to plan own week to week activities within given work programme with agreement of manager.
•    Capable of designing, supervising and carrying out complex laboratory experiments and broader projects.
•    Experience in presenting data and generating conclusions and recommended next steps from experimental results.
•    We are an ISO9001 accredited CRO, so all personnel have a responsibility to understand and follow the company's quality management system, maintain accurate records and work to a high standard.
•    A clear grasp of the drug discovery process would be an advantage.
•    Previous employment in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry would be an advantage.
•    An understanding of GCP/GCLP would be an advantage.
