Job Summary

We have an opportunity for a motivated and pro-active individual to join the team at the Charles River Laboratories Portishead site in the UK. The site is focussed on providing state of the art cell biology and pharmacology support to a range of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in areas including immune-oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and infection. We work on projects from early drug discovery through to clinical trials.


-    Supervise a team of technicians, provide each team member with appropriate training and support to reach development goals
-    Provide specialised technical support to the scientific teams including but not limited to processing tissues and/or blood products, cell cultures and PCR testing
-    Manage the provision of specialised technical support to the scientific teams
-    Provide training and maintaining up to date training records for specialised technical support
-    Manage the logistics and maintenance (working with external contractors), of the laboratory and office spaces
-    Manage the logistics, maintenance (working with external contractors), distribution and calibration of a wide variety of equipment and instruments.
-    Generate relevant documentation in support of work studies
-    Work with scientists and senior management to identify requirements and solutions
-    Work with the regulatory team to ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements


-    Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, business, or marketing related discipline.
-    Experience: Two or more years of laboratory experience in a contract research and/or pharmaceutical setting. Two or more years of customer service or related experience.
-    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
-    Computer skills: proficient user for word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
-    Capable of working with a minimum of supervision, able to handle multiple tasks, and effectively prioritize based on departmental goals. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail required.  
-    Ability to work effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines. 
-    Ability to occasionally work on site beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
