Job Summary

The Executive Director, Operations Management is the primary party responsible for specific site activities and coordination of efforts between all Cell Solutions departments and sites. Point person for interfacing with many external parties and internal stakeholders to ensure optimal site performance. Member of the Senior Leadership Team contributing recommendations to strategic plans, business reviews, and execute activities to implement Corrective and Preventative Action plans brought forward from internal audits by the Quality team.  Has direct oversight of the Facilities, EHS&S, Equipment, Production Planning, and Shipping and Logistics departments at the Northridge site, and coordinates global activities and execution of priorities across all Cell Solutions sites. This position will also provide guidance, support, and indirect management, in coordination with senior leadership, to other Northridge functions including Procurement and Warehouse, Donor Management, Donor Recruitment, IT, Laboratory Services and Scientific R&D.

Essential Responsibilities

Site Operations:
•    Has overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the vision and strategy as well as budgets for the site and provides guidance to other site managers ensuring consistency.
•    Acts as the senior authority for site operations. Develop and maintain a deep understanding of site customer needs and translate into fit-for-purpose plans, leveraging and empowering the Site Operations team to meet customer requirements.
•    Creates and implements operational standards and customer service metrics for all sites to use as a measurement of performance.

 

Facilities Operations and Office Management:
•    Develops lab space allocation plans for existing and future spaces. Incorporates scientist needs, growth projections, program timelines, space and equipment footprint, and needs for sharing/segregation into a long-term, flexible space allocation plan.
•    Serves the needs of onsite team members, including lab, medical/donor, and site operations teams in capital project scoping, design, construction, and delivery.
•    Provides strategic direction to Facilities and office management staff to ensure that equipment and building systems are in good working order and that employee needs for badging, space security, office supplies, and kitchen amenities are met.

 

Environmental Health, Safety & Security:
•    Leads the Employee, Health, Safety & Security initiatives for all Cell Solutions sites, ensuring consistency with all policies, procedures, and training.
•    Works with CRL EHS&S to prioritize and deliver EHS&S programs at the sites to include but not limited to OSHA compliance, Exposure Risk Assessments, Chemical Hygiene, Hazard Communication, Biosafety Management, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
•    Engages with internal and external resources as needed to develop and successfully implement strategies and programs for managing EHS&S compliance and risks.  Knows and follows safety rules relative to area(s) of responsibility.  Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and external regulations regarding the products and procedures.

 

Equipment:
•    Directs Equipment staff, ensuring all duties and responsibilities are completed with a sense of urgency, a customer service focus and mind-set, and ability to be flexible handling and resolving unplanned issues.

 

Production Planning:
•    Plays integral role in production scheduling and lab capacity utilization.  Directs business systems for production planning alignment, acting as a liaison between donor recruitment and donor collections to achieve budgeted collection goals in a cost-effective manner.

 

Shipping and Logistics:
•    Oversees shipping and logistics department to ensure shipments (Domestic and International), outgoing and incoming, are completed according to product regulations, restrictions, and guidelines.

Job Qualifications

•    Preferred Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, business, or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
•    Ten+ years of progressive experience in laboratory, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or donor center environments.
•    Prior experience in research environment a plus.
•    Experience with current Good Laboratory Practices, current Good Clinical Practices, and current Good Manufacturing Practices a plus.
