Job Summary

We are seeking a Molecular Team Leader, Special Projects for our Microbial Solutions site located in Newark, DE.  


Responsible for processing customer samples in the microbiology laboratory utilizing MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry and DNA Sequencing, with focus on Special Projects and Strain Typing. Provide support and leadership to molecular technologists during daily operations and effectively communicate processes and procedures to laboratory management.

Long Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Lead Special Project and Strain Typing activities to ensure optimum performance of the laboratory.
•    Track Special Project and Strain Typing samples to ensure on-time delivery of results.
•    Work with Laboratory Management to generate customer specific Special Project protocols.
•    Enforce work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures and strategic directives.
•    Conduct accurate processing of customer samples in accordance with current SOPs and Special Project protocols.
•    Provide backup for all laboratory functions.
•    Assist in writing OOS investigations, deviations and CAPA’s.
•    Collaborate with Regulatory Compliance and Customer Care to report, record and resolve Out of Specification (OOS) findings, deviations and customer complaints. 
•    Collaborate with R&D and Process Development Specialists to ensure assay and laboratory improvements with focus on Special Projects and Strain Typing.  
•    Collaborate with Customer Care to resolve discrepancies with customer samples.
•    Assist with the validation of Special Project and Strain Typing assays..
•    Dispose of microbe cultures, chemicals and glass in proper waste containers.
•    Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and MSDS/SDS sheets.
•    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following are the minimum requirements related to the Molecular Team Leader, Special Projects.

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Microbiology or related discipline.
•    Experience: 5 years minimum experience in a laboratory setting.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
•    Certification/Licensure: None.
•    Other: Must have working knowledge of the Quality System and Laboratory Information Management System. Must have ability to work in a fast paced and team oriented work environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy required.
