We are looking for Technicians at all skill levels who have an adventurous spirit and specialize in Research, Necropsy or Animal Husbandry to join our Rapid Response teams.  In this role, you will have the opportunity for paid travel to various North American and global Charles River sites, performing basic and advanced laboratory procedures. You will have the opportunity to expand your skills and cross train in various techniques while meeting new Charles River colleagues.  This is an exciting opportunity for those willing to travel with minimal notice.  Home base for these positions may be located at any of our Charles River sites. We are also open to remote employees. Travel required is 75% or more.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Necropsy Technicians

Responsible for performing basic necropsy procedures (dissection, tissue collection and sample collection, etc.) per hosting sites SOP’s and special necropsy procedures (collection of tissues for special procedures, perfusion fixation, fetal evaluation, specialized dissection, neurodissection, photography, etc.).  Will review laboratory documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and study specific requirements and prepare responses, deviations and other documentation resulting from internal and external reviews and/or audits.


Research Technicians

Responsible for performing technical tasks in the conduct of in vivo research studies or support services in accordance with good animal welfare practices. Will prepare, collect and record research data and specimens in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs.  Will collect and record data with minimal supervision in the performance of studies.   Responsible for handling and restraining animals, clinical observations, sample collection, monitoring food consumption, animal husbandry, and performing accurate data collection and reporting. Administer test substances by various basic methods.  ALAT certification preferred.


Animal Care Technicians

Responsible for performing operational, administrative and technical tasks to provide comprehensive care for all species of laboratory animals at the site, including: daily health observations, feeding/watering, sanitizing primary and secondary enclosures, environmental enrichment, handling and restraint and related tasks. Assist with the movement of animals and stocking of supplies. May serve as lead/primary technician and perform technical duties with guidance.  Will review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and internal guidelines.  Will perform daily animal health observations and communicate health issues to the research and veterinary staff.  Ensure proper documentation and administer medical treatments.  May operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.


In any of these roles, you must be able to perform effectively as a team member, be willing to travel with minimum notice, be comfortable with learning new techniques, accurately record data, follow verbal and written instructions, maintain a positive work atmosphere, communicate effectively, and interact in a professional manner with management, coworkers, and sponsors.

Job Summary

Performs technical tasks in the conduct of in vivo research studies or support services in accordance with good animal welfare practices. Prepares, collects and records research data and specimens in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs.
