Job Summary

The Manager of SOX Compliance Projects will report into the Global Internal Controls team and be assigned to support the CVP of Digital Operations on CRL transformational\efficiency initiatives associated with Charles River Laboratory’s Enterprise Strategy. They will be responsible for ensuring an effective process is designed, implemented, and continually enhanced to assess SOX relevancy\impact prior to project commencement. They will collaborate with key project stakeholders such as individual project teams, global process owners\technology partners, process subject matter experts to identify key changes to existing SOX processes such as changes to: process flows and\or activities,  people\roles, segregation of duties, existing risks or introduction of new risks, business, application, configuration, information processing controls, evidence, key reports, system generated data, systems, design, dataflow, new systems, and others. 
The Manager of SOX Compliance Projects will develop and enhance SOX compliance dashboards to be utilized in providing routine compliance progress updates, including escalation of progress concerns and compliance risks requiring resolution by management. They are a proactive self-starter, effective in both team settings and as an individual contributor and is flexible and adaptable to pivot to meet the evolving needs of the role.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Design, develop and deliver a sustainable process to evaluate CRL projects for SOX relevancy\impact, perform SOX key change assessments prior to project commencement. 
  • Collaborate with key project stakeholders such as individual project teams, global process owners\technology partners, process subject matter experts to identify and document key changes to SOX processes. Changes may impact process flows and\or activities, people\roles, segregation of duties, existing risks or introduction of new risks, business, application, configuration, information processing controls, evidence, key reports, system generated data, systems, design, dataflow, new systems, and others. 
  • Develop and enhance SOX compliance dashboards to be utilized in providing routine compliance progress updates, including escalation of progress concerns and compliance risks requiring resolution by management.
  • Work with SOX leadership, Global Internal Controls and Project Team Leads to orchestrate and executing limited sample testing on behalf of management, summarization, and communication of test results, etc.
  • Apply knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile
  • Facilitate meetings with project team members, global process owners and process and control owners to assess and document key changes to the control environment 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other business related major.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in; internal controls, internal audit, project management. 
  • Ideal candidate would have internal controls\internal audit with PMP certification.  
  • Experience and\or knowledge of setting up multi-project tracking, 
  • Relevant internal controls experience in SOX processes documentation, process and control walkthroughs, risk assessment, control design, data flows, application controls, information processing controls, IT general controls. 
  • Familiarity with financial systems as they relate to reviewing and improving internal controls
  • Strong knowledge of the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Section 404, SEC reporting requirements, and PCAOB and COSO/Internal Audit standards.
  • Effective in exercising initiative, producing desired results, and achieving objectives
  • Ability to build and maintain solid relationships across multiple levels of management including communication with external auditors/consultants.
  • Effective in presenting findings and conclusions clearly and concisely to stakeholders and management
  • Experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, vendors
  • Experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring others
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves to both do the work and manage initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced/high growth environment with multiple entities.
  • Strong international and inter-cultural experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Preferred qualifications – PMP, CIA, CISA, CPA
