We have an exciting new opportunity for a talented, highly motivated individual to join our management team within the Small Molecule Drug Discovery division at our drug discovery facilities in either Saffron Walden or Harlow, UK. This role would be suitable for someone looking to develop their management career who either has a background in computational chemistry or who is a medicinal chemist with a demonstrated interest in CADD within the drug discovery arena. ]

The post will be an opportunity for you to manage, mentor and develop scientists who are at different stages of their career and who have different backgrounds. You will also influence the scientific strategy of project teams working with a diverse range of organisations across the globe, from charitable organisations and academic groups to biotech and big pharma. As a group leader within Early Discovery, you will be exposed to a wide range of drug discovery projects across different therapeutic areas and target classes at all stages of the drug discovery process, and you will have the opportunity to work with world class scientists in different disciplines from across the wider Charles River organisation. In partnership with other senior scientific leaders, your extensive drug discovery experience will help to shape the future scientific strategy in CADD and across the Small Molecule Drug Discovery division.  You will be a positive role model with a demonstrated ability to inspire and mentor the next generation of scientists. What you'll do?

•    You will provide managerial leadership within the CADD team, and within the Small Molecule Drug Discovery division. Your responsibilities in this area would include: motivating and developing staff, performance management, objective setting, providing feedback, and health and safety. 
•    You will represent the Early Discovery management team to all staff and to contribute to the management and performance of the division, for example coordinating internal processes such as laboratory management.
•    You will drive the delivery of drug discovery services to clients, using your expertise and initiative to define and deliver agreed project objectives.
•    Depending on your experience and background, you will provide medicinal chemistry, CADD or project leadership to projects, using sound scientific decision making and your creative problem solving skills to achieve project goals as well as managing resources, finances and client communication.
•    You will provide broad scientific leadership, mentoring others and helping to define future scientific direction
•    You will support the identification and implementation of relevant new technologies to enhance capabilities within CADD and the Small Molecule Drug Discovery division.
•    You will contribute to Business Development activities, acting as either CADD or medicinal chemistry lead within business development activities (depending on your background), preparing proposals and presenting to prospective clients.
•    You will promote high scientific visibility of Discovery capabilities, both internally and externally.
