Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing laboratory testing, recording, and reviewing test results, preparing and labeling blood components. This position serves as a lead in the General Laboratory when new laboratory personnel are added to the team.  The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is an integral part of the Bothell Donor Room team, in conjunction with RNs and Donor Recruitment.

 

Essential Responsibilities:
•    Properly use the Blood Product Information System, as well as authorize and perform system overrides as needed and within the scope of authority and ensure to escalate system problems as/if encountered, to management.
•    Accurately perform testing of blood products and donor samples (i.e., hematology counts (CBC), and pH).
•    Ability to perform flow cytometry testing as required on product samples.
•    Assist research and cell isolation laboratory with QC and production lab activities.
•    Work collaboratively with donor room team of RNs and Donor Recruitment to maximize donor flow at the center; assisting with donor center operations when necessary as a backup for informed consent process or prescreening activities.   
•    Accurately record, interpret, review and report test results.  Able to recognize and appropriately handle unacceptable test results. 
•    Verify the acceptability of blood samples.
•    Prepare and pack blood samples for send-out testing.
•    Properly perform and review quality control and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
•    Accurately maintain and/or review laboratory records; adhere to proper flow of paperwork.
•    Accurately perform blood component preparation from whole blood and apheresis collections.
•    Coordinate and evaluate blood component QC testing.
•    Prepare and review laboratory statistical reports.
•    Oversees the work of laboratory technicians.

Job Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, or chemical sciences or medical technology. 
•    5+ years of relevant experience.
•    Current Washington CLS licensure; MT (ASCP), preferred.
•    Blood donor center or transfusion service experience preferred.
•    Proficient use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
