Job Summary


Explora BioLabs, an entity of Charles River, is seeking an IACUC Administrator II located in Boston, MA.  


The IACUC Administrator II will support overall activities related to IACUC function, which include record management, animal care and use protocol review. Perform review of animal care and use protocols. Responsible for organization of IACUC semi-annual inspection reports and development of animal care and use program in coordination with IACUC and Regulatory Compliance Manager.



  • Provide oversight of the animal care and use protocol review process for submission, IACUC review, and investigator communications.
  • Conduct initial administrative and technical screen of all protocols and uses professional knowledge and judgment to assess completeness; makes determination whether the protocol is compliant with institutional, local, state, and federal regulations/guidelines/policies.
  • Serve as a regional/client specific contact for principal investigators for questions related to the protocol review process and initial onboarding.
  • Cooperate with research team to write and review contract research animal care protocols.
  • Perform ongoing yearly reviews of active IACUC protocols for compliance with current institutional, local, state, and federal regulations/guidelines/policies.
  • Assist the IACUC Chair in the efficient operation of the IACUC and subcommittees, including scheduling of meetings, setting agendas, etc.
  • Manage and participate in the semi-annual inspections and program reviews, including follow up on any noted deficiencies and preparation of draft reports to the institutional official and regulatory/accreditation agencies.
  • Coordinate animal transfers for clients, working with both the Attending Vet & Client Services to facilitate review of documentation and room assignments.
  • Assist IACUC/Regulatory Compliance Manager in USDA inspections, Corporate Audits and AAALAC site visits as requested.
  • Update IACUC policies and animal care SOPs and guidelines as needed.
  • Travel may be required in support of PAM and IACUC inspections (5%).
  • Assist with controlled substance dispensations and documentation.

Job Qualifications


  • BS/BA degree required.
  • 3-4 years related experience in IACUC function, including experience in the use of animals in research, teaching, and testing.
  • Clear understanding of the regulations underpinning IACUC functions (e.g., USDA, AAALAC, etc.).
  • Controlled substance handling experience preferred.
  • CPIA and/or AALAS Certification preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point and OS operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of statistics.
  • Strong ability to organize, analyze, interpret and present data
  • Posses excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills as well as sensitivity to handling confidential information.
  • Be detail oriented, flexible and possess the ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be able to work independently, possess good time management skills and prioritize well.
  •  Refers new or unusual problems to supervisor and work is only reviewed periodically for soundness.
  • Uses diplomacy to resolve problems
  • Must be willing to travel to multiple on-site locations as needed.
