Job Summary

We are seeking a Vice Chair ACUC for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Bethesda, MD.


The following are responsibilities related to the Vice Chair ACUC:



  • Provide direct support to the Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) Chair.
  • Participate in the monthly ACUC meetings including providing clarifying information and answering questions from the committee on the Animal Study Proposal (ASPs) and major amendments reviewed.
  • Monitor and tracks new and renewal Animal Study Proposals (ASPs) and amendments submitted to the ACUC.
  • Edit, review, and participate in the approval of all ASPs and amendments submitted to the ACUC. 
  • Assist researchers with developing and revising new and renewal ASPs and acts as a resource for regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in all facility and lab inspections.
  • Participate in efforts to ensure that contract maintains accreditation status (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care, International, (AAALAC-I)).
  • Fill in for ACUC Chair when the Chair is absent.
  • In collaboration with assigned veterinarian, oversee the approval of biologicals to be used in rodents held in contract DIR animal facilities.
    The following are minimum qualifications related to the Vice Chair ACUC position:

    Education:  PhD or DVM degree
    Experience:  3+ years of biomedical research experience, preferably infectious diseases and animal care research. Knowledge in the development and management of animal research protocols. Must have a technical background in laboratory animal science and understand the concepts of biomedical research.
