Job Summary

We are seeking a Research Support Specialist 1 for our Insourcing Solutions site located Bethesda, MD.


The following are responsibilities related to the Research Support Specialist 1:

•Provides support to animal studies at varying phases.
•Prepares supplies and equipment for ASP procedures.
•Performs technical support to assist in ASP related activities involving rodents, to include but not limited to: animal handling and restraint, weighing, blood draw (tail vein, submandibular, retro-orbital) injection (IM, IN, IP, IV), induction, necropsy and tissue harvesting using sterile techniques.
•Observe study/colony animals for abnormalities and report to the appropriate person.
•Maintains accurate records of animal/project for experimental data and related information as required by Institute and facility.
•Practice universal precautions appropriate to different levels of ABSL.
•Work safely with animal / human pathogen biohazards and help to maintain the research animal facility as a safe work environment / operation.
•Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.
•Maintains required attendance levels and adherence to work schedules in accordance with required staffing levels to ensure that assigned duties are completed.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Research Support Specialist 1 position:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. BS required preferred.
Experience:  Minimum of one-year experience working in a lab animal environment to include technical procedures with rodents required.
Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) preferred
