Job Summary

We are seeking a Clinical Veterinarian for our Insourcing Solutions site located Bethesda, MD.


The following are responsibilities related to the Clinical Veterinarian position:


  • Diagnose and provide treatment plans for research rodent and nonhuman primate species.  Successfully cross-train other veterinarians in those animal models, research-specific tasks and procedures learned. 
  • May provide clinical veterinary care in a Biosafety level 3 vivarium.
  • Mentor veterinary technicians in the evaluation, clinical care and treatment of rodent and nonhuman primate species. 
  • Read and review animal study proposals to provide input to the veterinary care aspect of the research proposed.
  • Complete in-depth reviews of protocols and provide input to investigators concerning their research and plans for animal health and wellbeing.            
  • Review and monitor protocols in progress to ensure that animal surgeries and procedures are performed as approved by the User’s Animal Care and Use Committee.      
  • Review, recommend and initiate policies, practices and procedures according to guidelines and Comparative Medicine Branch Section standard operating procedures. 
  • Inspect facilities for semiannual, annual and periodic reviews by the ACUC, OACU, and AAALAC, etc.
  • Communicate both verbally and written with investigators, managers and staff regarding procedures performed and on animal health concerns.
  • Possess professional level verbal and written communication.  
  • Participates in the review/revision of technical (ACUC) SOP’s.
  • Documents general and detailed reports of clinical observations, medical care and surgical treatments using the required system.
  • Provides clinical and surgical support as needed.

Job Qualifications

The following are requirements for the Clinical Veterinarian position: 


•    Requires doctoral degree in veterinary medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA accredited program.  
•    Maintains licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state in the USA.
•    Must be board eligible in the field of laboratory animal medicine.
•    Must have 4 years of relevant veterinary experience.
•    Preference to those with BSL3 and NHP experience.
•    Must have a thorough understanding of Animal Welfare regulations and the AAALAC accreditation process.
•    Computer literacy is required to use the electronic animal records program and working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel) preferred. 
•    Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
•    Duties require a team-oriented approach to solving problems and a proactive contribution positive work atmosphere.
