Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Research Associate I to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Cambridge, MA.

 

As the Research Associate I, you will conduct in vivo study work in rodents for multiple clients to support research programs. Collaborate with the veterinary staff to ensure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines, and regulations.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Able to perform and obtain proficiency in the following techniques, at minimum:
    • Handle and restrain animals using appropriate procedures
    • Dosing and inoculation of test articles via basic techniques, e.g., oral gavage, intravenous, subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, etc.
    • Basic tissue, blood collection, and humane euthanasia
    • In-life monitoring of the study animals for body weights, clinical observations, tumor measurements, etc.
  • Monitors animal health and welfare while performing technical procedures.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment with guidance (e.g. Isoflurane machine, IVIS, Irradiator, and others).
  • Disposal of biological, hazardous and animal facility waste following established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date lab records/ documentation while assuring quality and data integrity.
  • Report non-compliance or animal welfare concerns to the appropriate Animal Welfare Team member or IACUC office.   
  • Assist in maintaining clean work areas and lab supply inventory.
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisor/ leadership and assists in reporting procedural deficiencies and issues.
  • Assist Vet Techs and Veterinarians with follow-up checks, treatments and procedure if needed.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Research Associate I position.

  • Must have a GED or High School Diploma. Associate degree (A.A./A.S.) or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science or related discipline, is preferred.
  • Minimum of six – twelve (6-12) months directly related to laboratory animal work. Basic in vivo technical skills preferred.
  • Certification from AALAS for Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

 

The pay range for this position is $29-32 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
