Job Summary

We are a seeking an experienced Clinical Veterinarian III to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD.

As the Clinical Veterinarian III, you will diagnose and provide treatment plans for research rodent and nonhuman primate species. You will also successfully cross-train other veterinarians in animal models, research-specific tasks, and procedures learned.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Lead, train, and mentor veterinary technicians in the evaluation, clinical care, and treatment of rodent and NHP species. Assess and determine proficiency of the veterinary technical staff. Evaluate skill sets and identify training needs of veterinary technicians.
  • Review and monitor protocols in progress to ensure that animal surgeries and procedures are performed appropriately.
  • Inspect facilities for semiannual, annual, and periodic reviews by ACUC, OACU, and AAALAC.
  • Complete in-depth reviews of protocols by non-NINDS institutes and provide input to investigators concerning their research and plans for animal health and wellbeing.
  • Read and review animal study proposals to provide input to the veterinary care aspect of the research proposed. Review, recommend, and initiate policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Actively interact with management, facility veterinarian, and other clinical veterinarians and investigators to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and concerns, and to provide technical assistance.
  • Communicate/interact with investigators, managers and staff regarding procedures and health concerns; in addition, to solve requests, inquiries, and complaints.

Who are we looking for?

The following are minimum requirements related to the Clinical Veterinarian III position:

  • DVM
  • At least two years of relevant veterinary experience with laboratory animals, specifically primates (Old and New World)
  • Board certification in laboratory animal medicine and a current state license

The pay for this position is $180K-215K USD per year. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
