VETERINARIAN
Department
Our Toxicology Department performs safety assessment studies into possible effects on humans, animals and the environment of new and already existing chemicals and pharmaceutical substances. This is done by specific studies and techniques in several animal species (mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, frogs, cats, dogs and mini-pigs). The studies are based on international guidelines and according to strict animal welfare rules. The department consists of >210 staff and 60 animal rooms.
About your role
As one of the Veterinarians within Charles River Laboratories you will work closely together with three veterinary colleagues in a responsible and stimulating work environment, in collaboration with the teams of Animal Technicians and Study Directors. Together you are responsible for the health and welfare of the entire animal population and for the execution of veterinary activities included in the study plan. A dynamic job where every day brings new challenges, with a strong focus on animal welfare in a highly advanced research setting.
Primary responsibilities
• Monitoring of-, and advising on- health, welfare, and treatment of our animals
• Advising on the 3R’s and contributing to our animal welfare team
• Advising and training of our employees, and supervising experimental procedures in animals
• Performing and reporting veterinary examination procedures (e.g. ophthalmoscopy)
• Participating in our veterinary team on quality control monitoring programs and licenses (eg. GLP, AAALAC)
What is required
• An academic degree in Veterinary Science.
• Completed Laboratory Animal Science Course (Dutch LAS course, Art. 9 Wod).
• Strong affinity for the animal species present at CRL.
• Conversant with legislation and guidelines on animals, animal testing and animal byproducts.
• Available at least 32 hours per week; starting in the early morning.
• Willingness to be present at both locations (Den Bosch and Schaijk).
• Strong organizational skills, result focused and pro-active.
• Good communication and concise reporting skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English and Dutch language.
What is recommended
• Experience as clinical veterinarian.
• Working experience in a laboratory animal setting with laboratory animal medicine expertise.
• Experience in advising and training of personnel.

Over Safety Assessment

Bij onze Safety Assessment-vestigingen lopen jaarlijks zo’n 300 programma’s voor experimentele nieuwe geneesmiddelen (investigational new drugs [IND’s]).
